With Retentis®, GEFA is ushering in a new era in the field of soil improvement and water management in landscaping and all types of plantings. Retentis is 100% biological and completely biodegradable, listed by FiBL and certified organic.
The essential function of this innovative absorber is to increase the water holding capacity of the soil, improve organic matter, and enhance soil fertility. The application of Retentis® not only provides effective protection against drought but also enables the sustainable conversion of unproductive soils into fertile cultivation areas. This now allows plantings to be protected from drought stress, where known synthetic hydrogels and water-retaining mixed products could not be used.
Due to its biological composition, Retentis® is particularly environmentally friendly, thus also providing a pioneering alternative for gardening and landscaping. The hydrogel, derived 100% from lignin (wood), stores water during rainy periods or during intended watering sessions and releases it continuously to the plants during dry periods. This innovative approach not only leads to effective water retention in the soil but also supports moisture retention and stress-free plant development.
At the same time, Retentis® is capable of transforming infertile soils, including sandy substrates, into fertile cultivation areas. Active in the soil for a minimum of 3-5 years, the granules subsequently decompose into humus—a crucial step to increase organic matter in the soil and thus lay the foundation for long-term healthy plant growth.
