Wetting Agents – Effective Water Management Solutions for Urban Tree Sites and Green Spaces
Water is an essential foundation for plant life – yet in urban areas, uneven water distribution in the soil poses a significant challenge. Compacted soils, high levels of sealing, and climatic changes make it difficult to optimally use rainfall. Wetting agents – also known as surfactants – were developed to address this issue.
Development and Chemical Function
Wetting agents originally come from agricultural and horticultural technology and are based on surfactants that reduce the surface tension of water. This enables better water distribution and infiltration into hydrophobic (water-repellent) soil layers.
Application Areas: Urban Trees, Established Plantings, and Lawns
Especially for already planted trees or old stock in the city, wetting agents offer an effective way to improve water supply and minimize drought stress. The surfactants ensure uniform moistening of the root zone, which promotes the growth and vitality of the trees. Lawns also benefit significantly, as dry spots are reduced, and water absorption is made more efficient.
KICK® Wetting Agent
KICK® Wetting Agent Concentrate from Compo promotes water absorption and distribution in the soil and prevents drought damage. This also applies to follow-up watering in the following weeks. The re-wetting ability is significantly improved by KICK® Wetting Agent Concentrate.
KICK® Wetting Agent Concentrate is biologically degradable and can be applied multiple times. The application can be preventive to prevent drought damage or in response to acute problems.
Application Instructions:
KICK® Wetting Agent Concentrate is mixed with water and can be applied immediately. Additional watering is recommended during dry periods and is the goal of the treatment. For prevention and to avoid drought damage, repeat after 4 - 6 weeks.
For tree vitality, a combination application of Wetting Agent, Vitanica® RZ, and Baumkraft® Fluid is recommended.
