Efficient aeration is particularly essential for trees in urban environments, especially with planting pit construction type 2. The common challenges in urban areas are widely known: confined space conditions, overbuilt root zones, disturbed soil structures, severe soil compaction, and insufficient gas exchange, all of which impact healthy tree growth.
Soil aeration in urban areas is immensely important due to increasing surface sealing, such as pavement extending to the tree trunk. When the exchange of soil gases and oxygen is disrupted, it can lead to reduced growth in the medium term and eventual tree death.
Properly supplied roots also cause less damage to surrounding infrastructure, such as growing into utility lines or uplifting surface coverings. Aeration is provided via a ventilation pipe anchored in the surface covering with a water-air cap. The square cap design simplifies flush installation with the ground. Deep aeration is manufactured according to DIN EN 1433 and complies with FLL load classes A and B.
The tree snorkel aerates the soil and enables precise delivery of water and nutrients to the root zone, thereby improving the survival chances of trees in extreme site conditions.
The tree snorkel is a jute sleeve filled and stitched with expanded clay. Additionally, expanded clay is used as drainage material in the planting pit base and as an additive for tree planting and tree rehabilitation.
Advantages
Connection between the root zone and the surface
Improvement of soil gas exchange
Aeration of the root zone
Supply of deep root zones with nutrients, irrigation, and rainwater
Many trees in urban environments suffer from a lack of oxygen. The AirMax aeration system has been developed to efficiently address these issues and is also very easy to install. For better diffusion, all AirMax pipes are perforated. To prevent clogging, the aeration pipes are covered with a sleeve.
Filter sock to prevent clogging
Connectors & caps made of polyethylene (PE)
Improve urban microclimate and soil conditions
Aeration pipes made of polypropylene (PP)
100% recyclable

LUWA®
AERATION AND IRRIGATION
Efficient aeration and irrigation are crucial for the survival of trees in urban areas, particularly with planting pit construction type 2. The challenges in urban environments are diverse: limited space conditions, sealed root zones, disturbed soil structures, significant compaction, and insufficient gas exchange. Conventional systems risk mixing irrigation with aeration. This is where the GEFA LUWA® system comes in. It allows both aeration and irrigation to be managed through a single inlet without water entering the aeration pipes. Within the soil, water and air are directed separately, effectively preventing the chimney effect.
